how i get stage makeup to stay on

I’ve been doing a lot of makeup for Nemo’s stage shows in the past few months and found some products and techniques that help the makeup stay on! No matter the Heat, Rain, sweat or amount of jumping around.

I would like to share some things with you here :)

  1. let’s start with the base: I like to use something for the makeup to stick on but when trying grippy primers like the Milk hydrogrip, they tended to pill and be a bit annoying to work other products into. I’ve recently been using the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty cream, wich moisturizes and gets a bit sticky when it sets wich is perfect as a base for the makeup.

  2. For foundations i like to use the Armani luminous silk or the Face Atelier pro foundations wich are both silicon based. This smoothes out pores and provides a water and oil resistant layer on the skin. Both of these foundations are buildable and have a versatile finish aswell, wich is another reason why i love working with them.

  3. For contour and blush i like to work with cream products, since they settle nicely into the foundation layer. You can go over with powder products afterwards to intensify the colours and help set the creams.

  4. I set the face with loose powder to ensure oil control and go over everything with the Kryolan fixing spray, wich forms a protective film over the face. (* fixing sprays contain quite a bit of alcohol wich can dry out the skin, especially strong ones. Make sure to just use it when neccessary and remove it properly afterwards)

  5. For the Eyes i like to work with long lasting products aswell; Eyeliners, Kohl/Kajal pens that dry down (Kiko, about face), and of course eye paints! Eye paints like the ones from about face and Danessa Myricks are an absolute necessity if you want to create bold looks that stay on. They apply quickly (also great in a time crunch) and don’t move at all after drying down. I also like to use eyeshadows on top to create nicely blended shapes. Btw… you can totally powder over eyeshadow with loose powder on a puff to help it stay on! Just go over with the colour again afterwards if it dulls down too much.

  6. Now finally; the lips. Together with priming and moisturizing the face, i also put some lip balm on to avoid cracking, especially in the colder seasons. Then as a first layer i apply a lip tint to give a base colour. Over that i then either go in with some gloss, wich i apply at the last possible second, or some lipliner and cream lipstick. Once again, powdering over the cream.

☆ i hope this little guide on how i do stage makeup was useful! I keep learning as i go and will try to share more in the future. If you have any tipps and additions, don’t hesitate to message me on insta! ♡
